One day back in 1995, my husband, Craig, brought home a Dremel scroll saw. I remember thinking, "Oh great! Another stupid tool!" But not long after that, he came in from the shop and presented me with a beautiful collapsible basket with the End of the Trail scene in it. He had made it from a Berry Basket pattern a friend gave him. To say the least, I was impressed! It looked so complicated that I was sure I could never do something like that but one day when no one was around I snuck out to the shop and gave it a try. What fun! Well, we ordered the collapsible basket books and some videos from The Berry Basket along with other patterns, blades and supplies and
I've been hooked on scrolling ever since!
I've since upgraded to a DeWalt 788 scroll saw and my husband was kind enough
to convert our garage into my scrolling shop. I also design patterns, spending
most of my time designing word art sayings I call "One-liners." I also enjoy
designing wildlife patterns and custom wood portraits from photographs. I have had several patterns published in the (formerly named) Scroll Saw Workshop magazine. My word art patterns are being sold through The Wooden Teddy Bear.
Another of my favorite hobbies is photography. Wherever I go, I take my digital camera with me. It is great for nature/animal/people photographs that I can convert into patterns and not have to worry about infringing on someone else's copyright. It's also wonderful in that I don't have to use photos for making patterns from public domain photos that many others have used.
My husband and I own a transportation business, Craig's Hauling. We transport jet boats from a manufacturer in Clarkston, WA to their dealers. I am bookkeeper and office person. I have enjoyed traveling to different areas, especially up into British Columbia and Alberta, Canada.
I recently partnered with 3 of my friends to open a gift shop, Whimsy, in Kendrick, ID. We've pooled our talents and specialize in selling hand crafted products including soaps, body creams, wood crafts, wreaths, pottery, dishes, quilts and a lot more. I love working at Whimsy!
Craig and I have 7 kids and 15 grandkids who keep us quite busy. We live in North Central Idaho on 150 acres consisting of farmland, timbered land and a canyon. Dworshak Reservoir and the Clearwater River and forests are very close by. We attend Southwick Bible Church where many of the Christian inspirations and sayings for my word art patterns come from.
